“Feeding The Hungry

The Light

I use to be uninspired. I did encourage others to shine their Light.

I walked through the Darkness, and I became the Light.

I became the Light that shines in the night.

I became the Light that shines in the light.

I became the Light that shines on all that I encounter.

I became the Light that encourages others to shine their light.

Through service I will find my reward and I will live this life of Light until my flame Flickers and can no longer be seen in the Night.

Mission

“Feeding The Hungry”

Our mission is to assist in feeding the people in our community that face food insecurity. This will be achieved by assisting other organizations that are working in this area. We will raise awareness and funds to contribute to organizations that are on the frontlines of food insecurity. By working together with our partners, we will help build a brighter and stronger community.

Did you know that Oklahoma is the fifth hungriest state in the nation. The pandemic has most impacted families that were already facing hunger or one paycheck away from facing hunger. Food insecurity can effect people from all walks of life. Unfortunately, some groups like children, seniors, and Black, Indigenous, and other people of color face hunger at much higher rates. Hunger also most often effects our neighbors who live in poverty.

Let’s look at some facts that you may not know about regarding the crisis of food insecurity in Oklahoma and in Tulsa County.

Hunger in Oklahoma

  • 15.1% Overall State Food Insecurity Rate

  • 21.8% State Child Food Insecurity Rate

  • Oklahoma is one of only nine states with a food insecurity rate above 15%

  • 594,000 Total Food Insecure People of 3.9 Million Population

Tulsa County Quick Facts (Population ~643,000)

  • 13.9% Food Insecurity Rate

  • 19.8% Child Food Insecurity Rate (~32,000 Children)

  • 8.2% Seniors Living In Poverty

Statistics based on data compiled by the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

While there are several very effective organizations working intensely to address the food insecurity issues in our area, the demand continues to outpace the capacity for these organizations to touch everyone that needs help. It is the objective of The Community Light Foundation to add to these efforts to feed the hungry.

With your help and support, we can make a difference. If there is one hungry person, that is one too many.
